Collaborative art inspired by Thank you x

We created art inspired by the L.A street artist Thank you x.

Each individual cube represents one student but when put together
we have made an awesome 3-D piece of collaborative art. This
reminds us that each member of the class has something valuable
to offer.

Making Huts

For our writing experience we made huts in the hall.  Some of us chose to write recounts about our experience, other instructions. Here are some pictures and some of our writing.

̈” ̈Yay,” everyone yelled because Miss Nation said we are going to make huts. Then everyone hurried
into the hall and there were a whole pile blankets, tarpaulins, ropes and pegs. After that everyone went
crazy grabbing what they needed. Next there were chairs scraping on the floor (̈sounding like people were
farting!) as they were rushing to make their huts. 

Michael-Bobby was bossing our group around. Then I tied the rope to the chairs. After that Kayesschen
and I came up with an idea and that was to put the cricket stand in the middle of the hut. When we had
finished shouted out ” ̈Yay.” Our hut looked incredible, there was a blanket as soft as a cloud and the roof
was as hard as a brick. After all our hard work we could go inside and relaxed but then… Miss Nation it ́s
time to destroy them!!

It was a fun start to the new term.

How to make a hut

Have you ever wanted to build the best hut in the world with just soft and cosy stuff today is your
lucky day because I will show you how to make a hut .

You will need 

• 2 groups of Chairs stuck to each other
• 2 cosy blanket
• Pegs
• Books
• Stools 
• Sheets 

Steps to make a hut

1. First place the chairs opposite each other back to back.
2.  Put a blanket on the floor and put the sheets on top of the chairs to make a roof. 
3. Clip some pegs on the chairs to keep the sheet in place.
4. Now lay the books on the chair where the sheet is.
5. Then stack 3 stools on top of each other and  pull the sheet gently onto the stools inside the huts and put more books on top. 
6. Hope you will be able to make a hut after this. Have fun.

To celebrate Puanga we are busy creating our own starry night scene inspired by the work of Vincent Van Gogh. Here are some of the things we found out about him:


He died in 1890  - Kingsley

He moved around a lot - Maiah - Netherlands - France - England - Belgium - South of France 

when he first started painting he painted with dark colours and then he was inspired by artists in 

France and started to use brighter colours - Raki/ Miss N 

Before his death he painted over 900 paintings - Gemma
He was 37 years old when he died - Addison

He only became a famous artist after he died - Tristan

He was Dutch which means he comes from the Netherlands - Jasmine

His paintings can sell for millions of dollars - Emily

People didn’t want his paintings at first because they were too dark - Maddison

He did a lot of self portraits - Karel

His style of painting created a new form of art called expressionism - Miss N

Jump Jam

We have been enjoying doing Jump Jam for our daily fitness. We have been focusing on keeping in time with the music as well as developing our co-ordination.

In He Punga Kawenga we have been learning about emotions as part of our inquiry. When Mrs Bennett was teaching us she got us to pick an emotion and describe it in a poem. Here are some of our poems.

The Looker-on

In He Puna Kawenga we have been learning to write descriptions.  To write descriptions you have to be good at noticing ,observing and wondering. We went  around the school doing this then wrote  poems inspired by Frank Kendon's the Looker-on. Here are some of our poems.

Water Safety session

Hair one minute, gone the next

Today Maddison had her hair shaved off in front of the class. She decided to do it to raise money for Shave for a Cure as her Gran died of terminal cancer in 2016. So far she has raised $1090.

Active Learning

In week 6 we started our active learning sessions. There are four activities and we will do a different one each week. This week there was baking with Mrs Pedley, creating an igloo for our guard penguins in class, creating a sled for our little penguins and snowflake symmetry. We had lots of fun and were very creative, imaginative and innovative.

Six Word Memoirs

He Puna Kawenga created 6 word memoirs.

We had to carefully choose 6 words to innovate a phrase about something we like or something that is important to us.

Swimming

We have really been enjoying our swimming sessions in the pool. We have been practicing floating, gliding, sculling as well as freestyle and backstroke. Hopefully all our hard work will pay off when it comes time for swimming sports!
